Georgia Barnwell,
BSc, MHA, DHN, from Cuisine for Life.ca presented an exciting and informative workshop
introducing the many attendees to the benefits of the Living/Raw Food diet. The main focus of this particular workshop was 'How to grow sprouts'.
A Raw Food Diet, is a diet that consists mostly of fresh fruits,
vegetables, sprouts, nuts, seeds, grains, and seaweed.
Heating the food reduces the nutritional value or "life force" of the food and the enzymes are destroyed. Food cannot be heated above 116 degrees F. Cooking destroys up to 85 percent of the nutrients.

Live
foods are cleansing, hydrating, alkalizing, & full of antioxidants,
vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients & high quality protein that are easily
absorbed by the body. They are also high in life force energy & taste
great!
Raw foods contain very little sodium and saturated fat and are
high in potassium and fiber.
A diet of live foods offers one of the fastest and most efficient
ways to boost your immunity, cleanse your body of toxins and increase your
strength and vitality.
Sprouts are nature's superfood - they bring the
highest nutrition density of any food, and cost pennies a day. They are full of
vitamins, minerals, enzymes and protein and can energize your winter diet. Georgia
demonstrated how to grow sprouts in jars and trays, with and without soil. She
discussed growing alfalfa, pea, beans, lentils, buckwheat, radish and more.
Then she invited everyone to sample the flavours of the various
varieties of sprouts that she brought with her.
Many purchased seeds and sprouting supplies so that
they can start this project straightaway
Myra thanked Georgia for the wonderful presentation and invited
members and guests to enjoy a healthy snack and social time before beginning
the meeting.
